Land’s End Benefice A Service of the Word 17th January 2021
Preparation O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: let the whole earth stand in awe of him. Psalm 96.9
O Lord, open our lips and our mouth shall proclaim your praise. Give us the joy of your saving help and sustain us with your life-giving Spirit.
Prayers of Penitence God shows his love for us in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Let us then show our love for him by confessing our sins in penitence and faith. Lord our God, in our sin we have avoided your call. Our love for you is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes away early. Have mercy on us; deliver us from judgement; bind up our wounds and revive us; in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. cf Hosea 6
Kyrie Eleison You raise the dead to life in the Spirit. May the God of love bring us back to himself, forgive us our sins,
Collect Eternal Lord, our beginning and our end: bring us with the whole creation to your glory, hidden through past ages and made known in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Psalm 139.1-5,12-18 1 O Lord, you have searched me out and known me; ♦ you know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 2 You mark out my journeys and my resting place ♦ 3 For there is not a word on my tongue, ♦ 4 You encompass me behind and before ♦ 5 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, ♦ 12 For you yourself created my inmost parts; ♦ 13 I thank you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; ♦ 14 My frame was not hidden from you, ♦ when I was made in secret and woven in the depths of the earth. 15 Your eyes beheld my form, as yet unfinished; ♦ 16 As day by day they were fashioned ♦ 17 How deep are your counsels to me, O God! ♦ 18 If I count them, they are more in number than the sand, ♦
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
Reading: Gospel John 1.43-51
The Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,
Prayers of Intercession Lord, in your mercy hear our prayer. And at the end Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Conclusion Eternal God, our beginning and our end, accompany us in this day’s journey. Dawn on our darkness, open our eyes to praise you for your creation and to see the work you set before us today. Take us and use us to bring to others the new life you give in Jesus Christ our Lord. We go into the world to walk in God’s light,
