The Friends of St. Levan

The Friends of St Levan is a charity that exists to support the life of St Levan Church, both by financial donations and regular prayer.

Why join The Friends?

Since the arrival of St. Levan in the sixth century, the area has been a constant witness of the Christian faith to both the local community and our visitors alike.

Since founding in 2001 The Friends have upheld this tradition of prayer and spiritual support between those living in and beyond the confines of the parish, and we encourage you to join The Friends to continue this practice. Financial donations and fund raising will also ensure that the Church is kept alive and active for future generations to enjoy.

Friends receive a twice-yearly newsletter containing a reflection, news from the previous six months and about forthcoming events.

A special evening service with an AGM, when the annual report is given and the Executive Committee are elected, is held in the Spring.

Through subscriptions, donations and fund raising The Friends have supported the purchase of brown tourism signs for the church, a new microphone system and hearing aid loop, a replacement chancel carpet and a portable ramp for disabled access. We have contributed to a set of new hymn books, to the construction of an outside toilet, a new organ, repairs to the ceilings of the aisles, a new heating system, a new lighting system and to the publication of the History of St. Levan by Susan Hoyle.

Most recently we have contributed towards the cost of the window restoration project.

Will you join us?

Subscription rates are currently £10 a year (UK), £20 a year (overseas), £200 for life (UK).

Application forms are available in St. Levan Church or on this website. Any queries should be addressed to the secretary of The Friends of St. Levan, Merton Grange, Wheelers Lane, Bournemouth BH11 9QJ, or by email to sallytscott@googlemail.com.

St Levan Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the witness of St Levan, for his holy silences and faithful prayers at the edge of the world. Be with those whose lives are buffeted by the winds and changes in our beautiful world, and draw them into silent peace and contemplation of your holy words, in Jesus name, Amen
